1/48 Scale Correct Porportions!
| The
first two prototypes of this helicopter were flown on September 30 and
November 22, 1975, and named Apache in 1981. The first production Apache
helicopter flew in January, 1984, with first deliveries exactly one year
later. This remarkably agile helicopter has four-bladed main and tail rotors,
stub wing incorporating trailing-edge flaps, and an all-moving tailplane
to enhance conventional helicopter controllability. Apaches were used in
Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989, and these helicopters fired the
very first shots in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. The AH-64D is powered
by two 1900-shp General Electric T700-GE-701C turboshafts, giving the helicopter
a maximum speed of 192 mph, service ceiling of 20,500 feet, and a maximum
range on internal fuel of 380 miles. Helicopter armament: Hughes XM230E1
30-mm automatic cannon in underfuselage turret, plus four hardpoints under
stub wings for up to 16 Hellfire anti-tank missiles or seventy-six 70-mm
folding-fin rockets, or combinations of the two. |
