(then Major) Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager made a number of test flights in
this research plane. The X-4 was designed to test the tailess, or semi-tailess,
configuration at transonic speeds of approximately Mach .85. Numerous aerodynamicists
had concluded that by doing away with horizontal tail surfaces, transonic
aircraft problems caused by the interaction of supersonic airflows from
the horizontal tail surfaces and wings would be solved. |
All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted
Mahogany and comes fully assembled with removable desk stand. |
