F-89D Scorpion model airplanes |
| The
Northrop F-89 Scorpion was designed as a jet replacement for the P-61 Black
Widow. The first prototype flew in August , 1948, with deliveries beginning
in July of 1950. The F-89D entered service in 1953, featuring a new Hughes
fire-control system, removal of the standard six 20-mm cannon from the
nose cone, installation of underwing fuel tanks, and provision for wingtip
pods each carrying 52 folding-fin air rockets. Total production of the
F-89D reached 682 aircraft. The F-89D Scorpion was powered by two 7,200
lb. thrust turbojets, giving it a maximum speed of 636 mph at 10,600 ft,
service ceiling of 49,200 ft, and range of 2,600 mles. |
All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted
Mahogany and come fully assembled. |
