successor to the Thunderstreak, the first prototype of the F105A made its
first flight on October 22, 1965. The F-105D was the major production version
(610 built) of this fighter-bomber. It was powered by the 7802-kg (17,200-lb.)
thrust J75-P-19W turbojet, had all-weather capability, much improved avionics
and detail refinements. Maximum speed 1,390 mph at 36,000 ft, service cieling
of 41,200 ft, ferry range with maximum external fuel 2,390 miles. Armament
was one M61 Vulcan 20-mm cannon, plus more than 14,000 lb. of mixed stores
carried internally and externally. |
