S-3B Viking model airplane models |
| With
the evolution of quiet deep-diving nuclear-powered submarines, the US Navy
considered that high priority should be afforded to the development of
a new generation of hunter-killer ASW aircraft. The first prototype was
flown initially on January 21, 1972, with the type entering service on
February 20, 1974. In 1981, Lockheed received a $14.5 million contract
covering a Viking weapons system improvement program, including the ability
to carry the Harpoon ASM, the resulting aircraft to be redesignated S-3B.
The aircraft has a maximum cruising speed of 426 mph and a combat range
of more than 2,300 miles. |
This model is in precision polymer to exacting specifications.
It is hand painted, and comes fully assembled with removable desk stand. |
