Model Douglas DC-6 model airplane |
| The
first prototype of the Douglas DC-6 flew for the first time on February
15, 1946. The first DC-6s entered service with American Airlines in April,
1947, on the New York-Chicago route. DC-6s had seating capacity of 48 to
52 in standard layout, or 86 passengers in a high-density configuration.
A total of 704 aircraft were built between the civilian DC-6 version and
the military C-118 version, including one built for President Truman with
a VIP interior and named "The Independence". Because of their excellent
reliability, when DC-6s were retired by major users, they were eagerly
sought by operators in the lower echelons of air transport. The DC-6B had
a cruising speed of 315 mph, service ceiling of 25,000 feet, range with
maximum payload of 3,005 miles, and range with maximum fuel of 4,720 miles. |
All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted
Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand. |
